LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – An ordinance to regulate how E-scooters are used in Lexington has been passed by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council.
One council member told LEX 18 we could see the scooters in the city as early as this fall, along with regulations that will keep riders safe.
All but one council member voted to approve regulations for motorized scooters, including where they can be used, who can use them and who will enforce these rules.
Mayor Gorton says it’s important to answer those questions before the scooters are here. Council member Kathy Plomin, the sole no vote on the regulations, says the scooters aren’t a good fit for Lexington.
“I just don’t think lexington needs 400 scooters around our town. I just don’t see the need,” explained Plomin.
The new regulations allow five companies to bring up to 400 electric scooters each to the city.
