POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– An early morning mudslide destroyed a Powell County woman’s home Monday.

The mudslide collapsed on her Northbend Road home. The elderly woman was rescued, but Powell County officials say that the incident was so significant, they kept the road shut down for most of the week.

Although the mudslides don’t happen often, officials tell LEX 18 that they are seeing more deterioration of the root systems that hold the areas in place.

The situation on Monday left neighbors who live near the mountain very nervous.

“I’ve not slept well at all. Every little noise I get up and investigate. I’ve got two kids. I can’t imagine going through what she went through,” said neighbor Katrina Fraley.
