Beshear, Bevin take turns calling each other out at joint event

FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) – Attorney General Andy Beshear used a joint appearance with Governor Matt Bevin to demand that Bevin stop his labor cabinet from issuing subpoenas to educators for sick-outs.

Multiple boards of education received subpoenas from the labor cabinet asking for names of teachers who called in sick during protests at the state capitol.

A lawsuit filed by Beshear against Bevin was moved back to Franklin Circuit Court Thursday.  At a joint appearance of the Kentucky County Judge Executive Association candidate forum in Lexington this morning, Beshear took to the state to demand that Governor Bevin fire his labor cabinet secretary if he doesn’t withdraw the subpoenas.

Bevin said they already have the information the subpoenas asked for, but he insisted nothing had been done to punish teachers. He also said it is not up to him, it is the labor cabinet’s investigation.

Beshear said that Bevin could step in and fire the people asking for the information.

“This governor has shown he’s willing to fire members of his administration, even if they work for somebody else in his administration. So he can certainly go that labor cabinet secretary and say ‘you will stop or you will pack your bags’,” said Beshear.
