BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Cincinnati man was fighting for his life after being shot overnight in Boone County.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department said 46-year-old Michael Holbrook was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Police charged 47-year-old Larry Herald II with assault and wanton endangerment in the case.

Officials said the men were at a party and had been drinking when an argument broke out.

Herald allegedly fired one shot into the air in an effort to make Holbrook leave. Police said that when Holbrook didn’t leave, Herald hit him in the face with the gun, causing the weapon to discharge.

Herald told the responding officers that the shooting was an accident.

He was being held in the Boone County Detention Center.
