LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A local hip hop artist and community activist is ramping up his 7th annual coat drive for children in need.

And on Wednesday night, Devine Carama is trying to raise $20,000 with a virtual Concert for Coats since the event can't happen in person this year.

Over the past six years, Carama says they've donated about 10,000 coats to kids across the area.

He says the concert is one of their biggest fundraisers and it's a way to give back to Kentuckians who need it most.

"Knowing that some of the poorest cities in the country are in eastern Kentucky and doing community work here in central Kentucky and just seeing some of the needs, you know, I just get motivated to do it every year," said Carama. "This is something I'm gonna do as long as I'm living."

The concert starts at 8:00 Wednesday night on the "Believing in Forever" Facebook page. It's pre-recorded and is family-friendly.
