LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has declared Friday "Bowties For Babies Day."

Everyone was encouraged to wear a funky bowtie to raise awareness and funds for drug exposed babies. A spokesperson for Phoenix Grace, a pediatric residential recovery home in Lexington for drug exposed newborns, says hundreds of babies are born with drug exposure.

"Last year alone, there was 300 per hospital on average. So you're looking at 1500 just in Lexington alone. 1500 newborns born last year alone were exposed and in the United States it's every 15 minutes," Ann Nipp with Phoenix Grace explained to LEX 18.

There will also be a Bowties for Babies Gala held this weekend at the Signature Club of Lansdowne on Saturday, Nov. 16. For more information on that, click here.
