LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A 5-year-old boy was injured early Monday morning on Lexington's northeast side when he ran in front of a sport-utility vehicle and was struck.

Police officials said the collision occurred about 7 a.m. near the corner of Belmont and Preakness drives.

Authorities said the boy ran in front of a black SUV as the vehicle was making a right turn.

First responders found the injured child awake and alert at the scene.

The boy suffered a leg injury and was taken to an area hospital but was expected to be OK, police said.
