WINCHESTER, Ky. (LEX 18) — Clark County Sheriff's deputies are concerned after the county's fiscal court voted to cutting the sheriff department's budget.

County officials confirmed that the budget was cut in order to help operating and equipment costs for the fire department and jail.

Clark County magistrate Travis Thompson addressed the issue on his Facebook page.

"I have had a number of calls today from constituents asking why Sheriff Perdue's 2020 budget was cut by the fiscal court at this morning's meeting. I did NOT support the amendment to his budget nor can I answer the question as to why the majority of the court felt the need to cut public safety so drastically," Thompson wrote.

Thompson hinted that the ramifications could include affect sheriff department operations. The budget was passed 4-3.
