LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Two people were injured Tuesday morning when a car struck a construction worker and an excavator along Southland Drive.
Authorities said the crash happened about 7:10 a.m. along Southland Drive between Regency Road and Southview Drive. Southland was shut down in the area but reopened to traffic around 9:30 a.m.
Lexington police said a crew was working on a drainage project. Officials said a construction worker wearing a reflective vest was in the roadway blocking traffic when he was hit.
Officials said a female driver hit the worker, then continued on and hit an excavator.
The construction worker and the driver both were taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Police said both initially were thought to be critically injured. Officials now say both have non-life-threatening injuries and are stable.
