CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Clay County mother accused of killing her infant son is due in court Monday for a competency hearing.

In December, a grand jury indicted 21-year-old Amber Bowling on one count of murder. In January, she entered a plea of not guilty in the case.

On Monday, Bowling was due back in court to face a competency hearing.

In early December 2018, one of Bowling's neighbors found a dead baby in a garbage bag outside of his apartment complex.

Evidence showed the baby boy had been thrown off a balcony and landed on the ground. An autopsy showed the boy suffered a cranial fracture, brain bleed and broken ribs.

In court Monday, attorneys will present evidence about whether Bowling is fit to stand trial in the case.
