Coroner responds to deadly crash in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Montgomery County Coroner has confirmed one person is dead after a wreck.

The crash happened earlier this morning around 4:00 on Camargo Road at Greenbrier Road in Montgomery County.

A detective with the Sheriff's Office tells us that a Nissan sedan hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on.

Witnesses told police that the driver of the Nissan crossed the center line, leading to the collision.

Police say the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead on the scene. Coroner Jimmy Adams reports the man killed is 36 year-old Todd Penix from Frenchburg.

The driver of the SUV was transported by ambulance to UK Hospital, where he is in critical condition.

The Sheriff's Office says that an accident reconstruction team was on the scene to investigate what happened.

The detective says it was rainy and dark at the time of the collision, and the weather may have been a factor.

Camargo Road was shut down for several hours, but is now back open.
