LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — 6th District Councilwoman Angela Evans announced Wednesday she plans to resign her Council seat to get a Master's Degree in Public Policy at Princeton University this fall.

Evans will resign her Council seat effective July 31st and will officially withdraw her candidacy for the 6th District Council.

"Public service truly is the greatest challenge and the greatest honor," Evans wrote in a statement. "Serving as your 6th District Councilmember over the past five years has been an amazing and humbling experience. I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement so many of you have given me throughout the years."

In 2015, Evans became only the second female of color to ever serve on Lexington's city council. Prior to her election to the Lexington Fayette Urban County Council in 2015, Evans served as General Counsel to former Kentucky Secretary of State, Trey Grayson, and as Assistant Attorney General to former Kentucky Attorney General, Jack Conway.
