LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A couple's wedding dreams came true this Valentine's Day, but it wasn't easy to keep their plans in place.

Hillard Cecil suffered a massive stroke on December 4, during a routine shoulder surgery resulting in a coma and an emergency brain surgery.

Cecil had to stay at UK Hospital for a month before coming to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center in Lexington, where he is still recovering.

But before Cecil went into that shoulder surgery on December 4 the two made plans to tie the knot on Valentine's Day.

"The day that I was bringing him into surgery, we discussed what we wanted to do we hadn't really made a lot of plans, but Valentine's Day came up," says Lana Cecil, Hillard's wife.

After the stroke, they thought they would have to postpone their date, but Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation offered to throw the couple a wedding at their center.

"It's just special to see these moments that are incredibly human and to be part of it, it's a happy day, it's a happy Valentine's Day," says CEO Jarrett Millsaps.

They were able to have a small amount of family and friends join them, but Lana Cecil says she's most excited to see her husband regaining his strength.

"It's been a blessing thank God for all of his improvements, he has gotten excellent care here and therapy," said Lana Cecil.
