LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The engines will be roaring down in Florida as the Daytona 500 kicks off the NASCAR season.
It's a major race that draws viewers all over the country, including here in Kentucky.
The Paddock Bar and Patio on South Limestone spent the morning revving up for the big race.
"It's going to be electric. Simply electrifying. I'm not a big fan of NASCAR but I'm a big fan of beer and fast cars so I'm excited to see," said Brooke Sharp, a bartender at the Paddock.
Their 10th annual 500 for 500 event featured drink specials and an invitation from bargoers to start their engines.
The Tilted Kilt also took advantage of race day.
The restaurant offers specials, and even prizes, for those who pick a winning driver.
"I think everybody likes good friendly competition. When you put a bunch of people in a bar together ready to watch a car race.. I think they're ready for competition so it's just a good way to keep people entertained," said Adrianna Ferrer.
While the real action is hundreds of miles away, these businesses proved locals can still have a good time celebrating the Daytona 500.
