KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Knox County man is in jail after officials say he took a child during a domestic altercation and hid with her outside in the rain.

Officials were called to a home on Alex Creek Road for a report of domestic violence early Tuesday morning . When deputies arrived they learned that Christopher Stoots had left the home and taken a 3-year-old girl with him into the pouring rain.

Deputies searched the area for an hour when they were flagged down by a woman at a nearby residence who was awakened by hearing a child crying.

The toddler was found alone in the woods crying. She was not wearing a coat.

Stoots was found shortly after and was taken into custody following a brief altercation with deputies.

He's been charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor, fleeing or evading police, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, meth intoxication, and second-degree criminal mischief.
