IRVINE, Ky. (LEX 18) — Normally, when someone sees firetrucks and emergency vehicles parked out in front of a school it sparks panic.

That wasn't the case Wednesday when firefighters with Estill County Fire Department showed up at West Irvine Elementary.

The trucks were there to help cheer on a fifth grader who is battling cancer.

Anthony Alexander showed up at school and had his fellow classmates and Estill County firefighters to welcome him with applause and signs of support. The crowd chanted his names and firefighters hit the sirens to show their support.
