LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The family of a 10-year-old killed in an alleged DUI crash in July of 2019 has filed a wrongful death suit against the driver of the other vehicle.

The parents of Alexia Gomez Hernandez filed a lawsuit Thursday against Sequoyah Collins, 25. Police say Collins was under the influence of alcohol and driving more than 80 mph when she ran a red light and hit another vehicle, resulting in the death of Alexia.

Officials say that Collins' blood-alcohol content level four hours after the crash was .211. A blood test also confirmed that she had traces of cocaine in her system, police said.

The suit seeks damages for the death of Alexia, pain and suffering, lost wages and burial expenses.

Collins is charged with murder, two counts of first-degree assault, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
