Fayette Co. inmate dies after being found unresponsive

LEXINGTON, KY (LEX 18) — Officials at the Fayette County Detention Center confirm an inmate has died after being found unresponsive in his cell.

Captain Matt LeMonds confirms at 9:03 p.m., Monday, March 23, MacFarland Childers, 39, was found unresponsive in his cell by Community Corrections staff. Corizon Medical staff, who provide medical services at the Fayette County Detention Center, said Childers needed to be transferred to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m. at UK Medical Center.

The Fayette County Coroner is investigating Childers' death. The cause of death is pending toxicology report. This investigation is normal in the case of an in-custody death.

Childers was incarcerated on March 23 for failing to appear on charges of theft and contempt of court out of McCracken County.
