LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Fayette Mall announced Wednesday that it will begin enforcing a "Youth Escort Policy," requiring mall visitors under age 18 to be accompanied by an adult during certain nights of the week.

The "Youth Escort Policy" will be enforced beginning March 20. The policy requires all juveniles to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is 21 or older on Friday and Saturday nights after 4 p.m.

A spokesman says that the rule is intended to curtail the rising number of unsupervised youths hanging out at Fayette Mall and related disturbances.

The policy does not extend to teens who work at the mall. They will be issued identification that indicates their employment.

“Teens and pre-teens are welcome to shop at the mall,” said Myron Worley, general manager of the mall. “We are only requiring that our minor customers shop with a parent, or with a guardian who is 21 years of age or older, during the periods YEP is in effect.”

In addition to Friday and Saturday evenings, the policy can also be implemented at any other day and time at the discretion of management.
