FRANKFORT, Ky. (WAVE) — A fence will be built around the Governor's mansion in Frankfort following an event with protesters at the property in the Spring.

WAVE 3 News reports the move comes after armed protesters crossed over barriers to stand on the front porch of the mansion in protest of COVID-19 restrictions.

The Governor addressed the protest that same week, saying the group was inches from where he, the First Lady, and their two children were in the home.

Protesters later hung the Governor in effigy on Capitol grounds.

WAVE 3 News reports the fencing was requested by Kentucky State Police Executive Security for the safety of the current and future first families within the mansion.
