LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Today at Unity Worship Center, family and friends of 82-year-old murder victim Alice Carter gathered to celebrate her life cut short by gun violence.
Carter was killed on October 21 while being dropped off at one of her daughter’s homes on Fifth Street in Lexington.
Police say Carter was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.
Dozens of people came to pay their respects. Carter was a sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many, but her family says her loving heart went far beyond her blood relatives.
“It didn't matter with Miss Alice, if you were a family member, if you were a friend... you were family, she didn't meet a stranger,” says Carter’s granddaughter Summer Ragan.
A pillar of the community, Carter, a former nurse, raised her eight children in Lexington.
“I wish she still was here, so I could have my last words to her, and my last words would be I love you. I will always be by your side, no matter what,” said grandson Jo’ziyah McGuffy-Ragan.
No arrests have been made in Carter’s murder, but her family says they are hopeful for answers soon.
