GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) — Georgetown College is kicking off December with a gift to prospective Scott County students: Free tuition for four years.

The college's admissions officials announced Monday the new Legacy and Legends Scholarship program.

Beginning in fall 2020, eligible students will be awarded the full-tuition scholarships, which is valued at $160,000.

The program will run through 2029, the college's bicentennial year and will be paid for through "generosity of alumni and donors."

The scholarships will be available to graduates of Scott County High School or residents of Scott County for their entire senior year. Prospective students will have to have graduated and be admitted to the college.

They also will have to be a full-time resident student, meaning they must be on campus and taking 12 hours, and be in good standing.

Officials said the program would not apply retroactively but that current students will receive a smaller scholarship.

Georgetown College administrators said this is the first of four "major" announcement it has planned for the next two weeks.
