ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Emergency officials responded early Wednesday to a fatal head-on crash in Estill County.

Authorities said the crash occurred about 7 a.m. along the 3300 block of Spout Springs Road, also Kentucky Highway 82.

According to officials, Kelsey Wheeler, 20, was going south on Spout Springs Road when she lost control and went over the center line. Wheeler hit another vehicle that was going northbound.

The victim has been identified as Justin Carson, 34, of Irvine, Kentucky. According to Estill County Coroner, Carson died as a result of the crash.

"From speaking with first responders on scene, especially the local agencies, I'm told that this curve has been problematic and there have been several accidents in this location of the roadway," said Kentucky State Police Trooper Adam Hall.

Wheeler was sent to the University of Kentucky hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Wheeler and Carson were the only individuals involved in the wreck.

The roadway was shut down as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the road is still closed.
