LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington’s Division of Waste Management announced its adjustments to the waste collection schedule for Christmas, as well as information on how to dispose of your Christmas tree.

Residents and businesses who normally have curbside waste collection on Tuesdays will have curbside waste collection on Monday, Dec. 23. Those people should place their carts out after 4 p.m. on Sunday Dec. 22.

Yard waste will not be collected between Dec. 23, 2019 and Jan. 5, 2020. Only trash and recycling will be collected those weeks.

This change will affect all residents with city curbside waste collection.

Residents with city waste service can toss out natural Christmas trees by putting them on the curb, next to their carts, between Jan. 6 and Jan. 31, 2020. Natural wreaths and garland can be placed in the gray yard waste carts. You must remove all lights, tinsel, ornaments and other decorations before setting your tree out or placing wreaths and garland in your yard cart. Trees can also be disposed of by dropping them off during daylight hours at Jacobson Park where Kentucky's Division of Fish and Wildlife will be collecting trees starting right after Christmas until Jan. 17.

There are tree drop-off locations throughout the state. They will only dispose of natural trees only, no wreaths, limbs, or trash.

You can donate artificial trees in good condition at the Habitat for Humanity’s Restore. You can dispose of artificial trees by placing them on the curb, please remove all tinsel and ornaments.

Lexington’s Recycling Center, Electronics Recycling Center, and Haley Pike Waste Management Facility will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2020, as well as Dec. 21 and Dec. 28.
