LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Hope Center in Lexington is asking for donations to help its clients in the emergency shelter and veterans programs.

Workers are asking for clothing and winter gear, like coats, hats, gloves, sweatshirts, pants and long underwear. They're also asking for miscellaneous items, like backpacks, duffle bags, and bus passes.

Since some of the clients in the recovery program have children, you can also donate toys.

"Right now, they're in a residential recovery program and they don't have any income, so it's a way for them to give something to their children, so they can be Santa,” said Carey Cairo, the volunteer and community relations manager at the Hope Center.

Donations can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Don Ball Campus Center until Dec. 17.

The center will hold a Christmas party on Dec. 18, where clients will get to pick out their gift from the donations.

You also can visit the Hope Center website, hit the donate button and designate that the donation is for the Christmas party. Staff members will purchase gifts for the clients with these donations.
