Hospital officials: 'Critically important that we take action now'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Hospitalization rates are soaring across the country, including here in Kentucky.

More than 1,700 COVID-19 positive patients are in Kentucky hospitals.

57 of those patients are at Baptist Health in Lexington

A UK Hospital spokesperson says there are 89 COVID in-patients right now, and 22 of those are in the ICU.

In anticipation of a post-Thanksgiving surge, UK Hospital officials have already announced five of its operating rooms will be closed to make more room for COVID-patients.

Officials from Baptist Health Lexington, CHI Saint Joseph Health, and UK Healthcare penned an open letter to the community about the pandemic concerns. You can read that letter below.
