WINCHESTER, Ky. (LEX 18) — After several days of snow and sleet, roofing companies have been busy doing home inspections.

Joel Mishler a senior sales representative for Franklin Roofing in Clark County says they've been busy this week visiting homes with water damage from the storm.

"We've seen a lot of leaks; we've seen a lot of water seep through roofs and shingles and start to destroy installation in attics," said Mishler.

Mishler says it's best to keep up your homes before the damage becomes too great and recommends getting a roof inspection every five years; preferably before the weather gets too cold.

"You definitely want to plan it in the spring and summer or the fall when it's dry and there isn't snow on the ground," says Mishler.

There are some steps you can take to constantly monitor the condition of your roof and gutters. Mishler recommends when you walk around your house, especially after a storm, to look for loose or missing shingles, and always check for water spots on the walls and ceiling of your home.

"When you see icicles on your house they mainly form on gutters. One thing you want to be mindful of if you start to see your gutters slope, if they are starting to fall a little bit you definitely want someone to come and look at those," said Mishler.
