SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Scott County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that Jaime Morales has been sworn in as a special deputy.

Calling it a "transition," the department in a news release said Morales, who was paralyzed in September 2018 when he was shot by friendly fire during standoff, was fulfilling his wish to continue serving the people of Scott County.

"Deputy Morales has always expressed during his recovery that he wanted to continue his service to the citizens of Scott County in whatever capacity he could," Sgt. Eddie Hart said in a statement.

Sheriff Tony Hampton administered a new oath of office to Morales on Wednesday, officials said.
