RICHMOND, Ky. (LEX 18) — One person has died after a shooting Friday in Madison County near Eastern Kentucky University’s campus.

Around 2:00 a.m., Richmond Police responded to a burglary call at an apartment below a business on East Main Street.

“Once they responded to the residence, they found a suspect that had fled the scene and a victim, a male victim that had apparently been shot,” said Assistant Police Chief Rodney Richardson.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died. Police identified him as 59-year-old Freddie Biggs of Waco, Ky., and said he appears to have been a guest staying at the residence.

There was one other person inside at the time who was unharmed.

Investigators have not identified a suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Richmond Police at (859) 624-4776.
