(LEX 18) — A bill has been introduced to raise the legal age for buying all tobacco products in Kentucky from 18 to 21.

It has been pre-filed by Senator Ralph Alvardo, of Winchester, who is a practicing physician himself. He says the bill will include e-cigarettes and any future tobacco products.

He believes the bill would help reverse the youth e-cigarette and vaping epidemic that has reached more than a quarter of Kentucky's high school students, according to research done by The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.

Senator Alvarado will speak about the new bill during the "Coalition for a Smoke-Free tomorrow" at the Capitol in Frankfort at 10 a.m. Saturday.
