JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting near the Johnson, Martin County line.

Around 6:30 p.m. on April 29, officials at the Richland County Sheriff's Office in Ohio contacted Kentucky State Police, asking for help finding a wanted person.

Officials say that suspect had fired shots at two people in Ohio and was thought to be in the Wittensville area of Johnson County.

Hours later, the suspect's vehicle was found. Troopers say the driver refused to stop. After a pursuit, they say the driver stopped near KY Route 40 and KY Route 3039 in the Spring Kob Road area.

Troopers say the male suspect barricaded himself inside a box van that he was driving and said he had several loaded firearms with him.

While trying to negotiate with him, Troopers say the suspect pointed a firearm at them and local officers.

In response, officials say shots were fired and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation continues. The suspect's name has not been released.
