A school district in Breckinridge County is mourning the loss of a fifth-grade student who was killed in a traffic crash.
Cloverport Independent School District announced the death of 11-year-old Kolton Worden in a Facebook post, describing him as a "bright and cherished member" of the school's fifth-grade class.
According to Kentucky State Police, Worden was driving a scooter when he was hit by a driver Monday afternoon in Cloverport. The crash remains under investigation.
"It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of one of our Aces, Kolton Worden," the district said in its post. "Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with Kolton's family, friends, and everyone touched by his life during this incredibly difficult time."
School officials said grief counselors will be available to support students and staff affected by the loss.
The district also announced efforts to help the family with unexpected expenses. Donations can be made through an account established at First Financial Bank in Cloverport or mailed to the Cloverport Board of Education. Additional digital donations are being collected through a staff member and will be directed to the family.
"We know this loss affects our entire community," the district said. "Please join us in keeping Kolton's loved ones in your thoughts as we navigate this profound loss together."
Worden was a student at Cloverport Independent School District's elementary school.

An 11-year-old riding a scooter was struck and killed by a driver in Breckinridge County Monday afternoon, according to the Kentucky State Police.
The collision happened around 4:30 p.m. on Elm Street near the intersection of Seventh Street in Cloverport, according to a news release from KSP Post 4.
Once on scene, the Cloverport Police Department requested assistance from troopers.
A preliminary investigation found the child was riding a scooter and entered Elm Street, traveling into the path of a passenger vehicle.
The child was flown to Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville with life-threatening injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, the child died and was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County Coroner at 9:12 p.m., according to KSP.
Police said the driver stopped at the scene and remained there to help the child.
Kentucky State Police said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information was immediately available.
