CLOVERPORT, Ky. (LEX News) — An 11-year-old child has died after a collision involving a scooter and a vehicle in Breckinridge County, according to Kentucky State Police.
The collision happened around 4:33 p.m. Monday on Elm Street near the intersection of Seventh Street in Cloverport, according to a news release from KSP Post 4.
Troopers were called to investigate after the Cloverport Police Department reported a vehicle-pedestrian collision involving the child.
A preliminary investigation found the child was riding a scooter and entered Elm Street, traveling into the path of a passenger vehicle driven by Dalton Kellems, 22, of Cloverport, state police said.
The child was flown to Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville with life-threatening injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, the child died and was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County Coroner at 9:12 p.m., according to KSP.
Police said Kellems stopped at the scene and remained there to help the child.
Kentucky State Police said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information was immediately available.
