KSP investigating a shooting that involved a deputy

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police reports that a Laurel County Sheriff's deputy fired their weapon at a man who was armed with a gun.

KSP says this happened after the Laurel County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance complaint on Saturday night. KSP reports that deputies encountered 59-year-old Michael V. Collins.

According to the release, Collins was armed with a handgun at the time. During the confrontation, a deputy shot Collins on Chestnut Way.

Collins was taken to the hospital, where police say he is in critical condition, but stable.

No law enforcement members were injured. The incident remains under investigation.
