KY COVID-19 report: more than 8,000 new cases from Dec. 31-Jan. 2

FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — On Saturday, the governor's office announced the total number of COVID-19 cases and deaths from December 31, January 1, and January 2.

Over those three days, there were a total of 8.739 new cases.

The positivity rate is now up to 10.79%.

Since the last update on Wednesday, December 30, 75 more Kentuckians have lost their lives after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

The death toll now stands at 2,698.

Currently, there are 1,635 COVID-positive patients in Kentucky hospitals. 428 of those patients are in the ICU and 211 are using a ventilator.
