The Recovery Cafe in Lexington is expanding its hours due to an increase in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its staff said recovery is already challenging in normal times, but with COVID-19 guidelines encouraging people to stay apart, recovery has felt impossible for some.

"It's hard to recover when you're that isolated," Recovery Cafe community engagement coordinator, Ethan Hawes, said.

Hawes said community support is vital during the recovery process, and that is where the Cafe steps in.

"What we really do here at Recovery Cafe Lexington is provide that community that camaraderie and that social connection that people really need to thrive," Hawes said.

That interaction comes in several forms including weekly recovery circles and other activities, such as Bingo and other organized events.

Due to the increased need from members, the cafe has expanded its hours from Saturday only to Friday and Saturday.

The community center is designed for people in recovery for addiction, mental health issues, and housing instability.
