LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Community members in Lexington are coming together to help a mother and her five-year-old son. They were both injured in a drive-by shooting last month.

On Wednesday, employees at Glenn's Freedom car dealership gave Cacey Roberts a new car. They say they hope it will take some of the pressure off her family.

Employees at the dealership say when they heard about everything this family has been through, they wanted to find a way to help.

They surprised Roberts with a new car they hope will remove any stress when it comes to transportation for her family going forward.

Employees say they were heartbroken to hear of the drive-by shooting last month that injured Roberts and her 5-year-old son, Malakai. A GoFundMe page for the family says Malakai was blinded by the shooting.

Police say the shooting remains under investigation.

Malakai's mother said she was overwhelmed by the surprise. She wasn't expecting it at all and she's very grateful.
