LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington firefighters and police officers faced off Monday morning in the second annual Proof Fitness Police Vs. Fire Combat Challenge.

The event aims to raise money for two families battling serious illnesses.

The challenge took place at Proof Fitness on Main Street in downtown Lexington.

And while the departments are facing off against each other, the goal remains the same.

"We come together, first responders, we're on the same team, we do the same thing, respond when people call for help," said police detective Anthony DeLimpo.

This year the challenge supported the families of Tammy Cole and Kaiser Holland. Cole's husband and son both are Lexington firefighters. She is battling leukemia.

Holland is the son of a Lexington detective and has epilepsy.

The two departments faced off in a series of physical challenges.

The goal for the challenge is to raise $10,000. Although the event has passed, they still need help meeting their fundraising goal. Agofundme page for the event has been set up for those wishing to donate.
