LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington police are searching for a fleeing driver who nearly struck two officers in the process.

The initial incident happened on Aug. 25. According to officials, officers were dispatched to a gas station on Georgetown Road for reports of two people possibly asleep or unconscious in a running vehicle.

Officers woke up a man and woman who were inside the car. The male driver provided a name and identification number that the officer determined to be false. As two officers approached the vehicle a second time, the driver abruptly restarted the vehicle and fled the area, almost hitting the officers.

After a brief pursuit, officers located the car crashed into a utility pole on Ash Street. The driver had fled on foot in an unknown direction. The female passenger, who was the registered owner of the vehicle, remained on scene but could not provide information about the driver.

Officers are releasing a photo of the man captured on their body cameras in an effort to garner leads in the case.
