MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (LEX 18) — A Lexington woman died Friday morning after a snorkeling accident at Lake Superior Thursday afternoon.
Michigan State Police said the incident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. when the 42-year-old, whose name has not yet been released, went underwater and did not resurface.
Police said a witness reported the woman to be underwater for about five minutes before she was found by other beach-goers.
An off-duty nurse at the beach gave her CPR until first responders arrived to take her to UP Health System-Marquette. She later died in the intensive care unit.
