LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Fayette County has moved into Phase 1B which means people over 70 years of age are eligible to get the vaccine.

Kroger Field is distributing thousands of these vaccines a day.

On Friday, 76-year-old Verlon Griffin and his wife, Ellen Griffin were one of the thousands to get the vaccine.

“It’s exciting because we want to get out and be with our kids and grandkids, and our great-grandkids, and be back in church again,” says Ellen Griffin.

Ellen Griffin and her husband, Verlon, received the COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, Jan. 29, at Kroger Field.

It’s been hard on the Griffins when the pandemic began they immediately isolated themselves.

“We try to stay busy at home, I sew, and he works on old vehicles, trying to stay busy,” says Ellen.

When an opportunity arose to get the vaccine the couple drove over an hour to Kroger Field.

“I think it will put everybody back out there. I'm one that gets the flu shot every year, and I believe in doing that, and I believe in this vaccine. I think everyone should get it so we can get back to normal,” said Ellen Griffin.

They know just how real this virus is Verlon lost an older brother earlier this year to COVID19, so they hope everyone takes this virus seriously.

“It’s better to get the vaccine than it is to die from COVID,” says Ellen.
