LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE 3) — A dog and her puppies have been taken in by Louisville rescuers who need help paying for medical attention.

The mother dog, called Ocean Blue, was brought to a shelter in Grayson County to be treated for being shot in the leg. Ocean Blue also had a litter of seven puppies. Her medical bill was expected to be tremendous.

WAVE 3 News reports that the dog and her litter were taken in by local animal activist Rebecca Eaves. Thanks to Eaves and authorities, the canine family is being treated at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Louisville. All donations toward Ocean Blue's treatment can be made to BluePearl by calling 502-244-3036.

The doctors hope to be able to save Blue's leg. Shamrock Pet Foundation has agreed to spay and neuter all of the puppies.
