Police: Man taken into custody following 6-hour 'barricade situation' in Richmond

The Richmond Police Department reports that a man has been taken into custody following a six-hour "barricade situation" on Tuesday evening in the area of Drayton Place.

Police say that during the barricade situation, negotiators maintained continuous communication with the man and had support from the Crisis Negotiation Team.

According to police, shortly after midnight, the man voluntarily exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

The incident remains under investigation, and additional details may be released as they become available, according to police.

The Blue Grass Army Depot assisted RPD with their Mobile Command Unit.

An official with the Richmond Police Department provided information regarding the "barricade situation" in a Richmond neighborhood on Tuesday, reporting that it began with a domestic dispute.

The official reported that at around 5:30 p.m., police were called to a reported "domestic situation" between a husband and wife over a "personal dispute."

The wife is out of the home safely as of 9 p.m. on Tuesday, the official reported, and negotiators are on the scene aiding in the situation.

Police asked the community to avoid the area as authorities work the scene on Drayton Place and Kensington Place.

During an interview with LEX 18, the official added that "we're just trying to keep everyone safe in this situation."
