LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Laurel County man is in jail after officials say an infant was found unresponsive at a home just outside of London.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff's office, deputies were dispatched Tuesday afternoon to a home on Sinking Creek Road. An infant had been found unresponsive at the home.

The infant was transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to St. Joseph Hospital London for treatment and later transferred to UK med center in Lexington for further treatment of a brain bleed. Deputies say they learned through the investigation that the child had fallen headfirst onto a tile floor while in her father's care.

Further investigation revealed that there had been previous instances of the child's head being struck and in none of those instances, deputies say, did her father seek treatment.

Dennis Jimmy Bell was charged with wanton endangerment first-degree and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. The child has been placed in the care of her mother at UK Medical Center.
