CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Before Friday night's football game kicked off between George Rogers Clark High School and Madison Central High School, fans honored the memory of special education teacher, Richard McCune.

McCune was killed in a crash early Thursday morning in Breathitt County. He was a first year teacher George Rogers Clark.

"Mr. McCune was a wonderful teacher who was loved and respected by all. He was a devoted husband and father and our GRC family will miss him greatly," an announcer said before the fans stood for a moment of silence.

In the short time McCune had been a teacher at the school, he'd made an impression, said Asst. Principal Jamie Keene.

"When I say that he absolutely loved what he did, that's no understatement," Keene said. "He had a passion for education and a passion for students."

Students cared for him too, said Special Education Director, Bridgette Mann.

"He was loved, and also loved by not only the students, but the adults that worked with him," she said.

Counselors have been available at the school to help students and staff deal with the loss.
