MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The superintendent of Montgomery County Schools is shooting down rumors of an outbreak of fights at the high school as inaccurate and exaggerated.

Posting to the school system's Facebook page, Matthew Thompson said that rumors and videos were being spread on social media alleging that dozens of fights had broken out this week at Montgomery County High School.

Thompson said the rumors and posts had caused undue concern.

"The truth is that there were far fewer incidents than referenced on social media and the vast majority of our students engaged in appropriate behavior," he wrote.

Thompson acknowledged some incidents but said they were handled appropriately.

"Administration and staff have increased supervision and are proactively addressing the matter with students," he wrote.

Thompson encouraged parents to be aware of social media posts involving their children and to raise any concerns with appropriate authorities.
