LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Lexington Police Department is investigating a collision that killed a 25-year-old motorcyclist.

Police say it took place shortly before 9:00 p.m. Monday at Richmond Road and Preston Avenue. Officers say the motorcyclist was traveling inbound on Richmond Road. Police say the driver of another car, 30-year-old Matthew Starling, attempted to make a left turn onto Preston Avenue when the collision took place.

The motorcyclist, Daezon Morgan, was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner's Office.

Investigators determined Starling was driving drunk at the time of the crash and subsequently charged him with DUI. Police later obtained a warrant for second-degree manslaughter. Starling turned himself in on Tuesday.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is still investigating what happened.

LEX 18 reached out to Lexington Police for a statement.

"We place charges based on where the investigation and evidence lead us, often in consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney office. Investigators look at all the factors unique to that particular case of what happened regardless of the demographics (race, gender, age, job title, etc.) of the people involved."
