LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX News) — Nearly 100 golfers took to the course in Lexington today for the Special Olympics Kentucky State Golf Tournament at Lakeside Golf Course, marking the second consecutive year the venue has hosted the event.
Athletes and mentors competed across 3 events. Some golfers played 9 holes individually, while others teamed up with partners for alternate shots. Beginners also had the opportunity to test their accuracy in a skills competition.
Organizers say the athletes dedicate themselves to the sport throughout the year to prepare for the tournament.
"Our golfers work really hard throughout the year, and they practice. They're in these regional tournaments because they want to do their best, and they work so hard and they're here, they're excited," said.
Special Olympics Kentucky is looking for volunteers to help with regional events.
