NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (LEX News) — Nicholasville police are warning residents about a text message scam in which fraudsters claim the recipient has a federal warrant.
According to a social media post, scammers instruct victims to withdraw money from their bank and deposit the cash into a Bitcoin machine. One person avoided the scam and reported in to NPD.
Officers say courts will never text someone about criminal charges and will never ask for payment in Bitcoin or gift cards.
