LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Whether you have overcome an addiction or just don't like to drink, 21C Museum Hotel in downtown Lexington is putting on a party for you. It’s called a "Sober Rave."
Organizers say it’s a way for people to have fun without being near triggers.
At the event, they're swapping booze for juice with a mocktail menu. There will also be a DJ, pop-up shops and activities geared toward self-care and wellness, like a yoga class, neck massages and a braid bar.
"I think we celebrate substances so much in our society these days and with this weekend being Super Bowl weekend, I think that's a very difficult weekend for some of those folks,” said Jennifer Davis, director of sales and marketing at 21C Museum Hotel. “This is a great space for them to have something very fun to do where they don't have to worry about that."
The event is free to attend, but there will be a suggested donation of $10. All donations go to the Schwartz Center, an addiction treatment and recovery facility.
"Unfortunately, there's a big demand for this in Kentucky right now,” said Julie Breitigan, Program Manager of the Schwartz Center. “There are never enough resources to help with this problem. We have a lot of folks that are tirelessly working with these people while they get back up on their feet. So, it's going to be a big help to us."
The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the 21C Museum Hotel.
