LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — One person has died after a crash between two vehicles early Friday morning.

Police say it happened shortly after 7:00 a.m. on Leestown Road just off of New Circle. Officers say a white SUV was driving inbound on Leestown Road, and a passenger car was coming out of the shopping plaza at the time. The passenger car was hit by the white SUV on the driver's side and was pushed down the road and then caught fire.

The Fayette County Coroner's Office says 50-year-old Tammy Botkin died from the crash. Police are working on learning how many people were inside the vehicle at the time.

Police say the driver of the white SUV tried to flee the scene but was stopped by police and taken away in an ambulance. Charges are likely against the driver.

The road is expected to be shut down until around noon. Police are looking for witnesses.
